To: All Teamster Local #436 Members Working at The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission
February 18, 2021
First and foremost, I would like to begin with thanking everyone for their patience during these uncertain times. Over the past year, we have been navigating through unchartered waters as a result of the Corona virus pandemic which has unfortunately made negotiations more difficult.
I would like to provide the following information to bring everyone up to date:
Negotiations originally began in December, 2019 until approximately March of 2020. At that time, the sessions were forced to pause due to the intensity of the pandemic. The Local continued to stay in contact with OTIC and negotiated a one (1) year contract extension with no changes due to the pandemic.
The extension included:
1.) a 2.5% Lump Sum payment to all employees, on all hours worked from 1/1/20 to 6/30/20 and,
2.) any pay increase agreed upon from 7/1/2020 to 12/31/2020 will be retroactive once an agreement is reached on a new contract.
Negotiations resumed for a new three (3) year agreement in November, 2020. Several sessions have taken place to date.
As fate would have it, in mid January 2021, members of our Local Union staff contracted the virus causing the absence of four (4) Business Agents and subsequently the delay of negotiations for the following few weeks.
After all guidelines for quarantine and recovery were taken, along with extreme measures for building sanitation, further negotiating sessions have been scheduled with the intent of completing negotiations and presenting to the members a Tentative Agreement to vote on .
Please be assured, we will continue to work diligently on your behalf in obtaining a new three (3) year agreement.
With sincere appreciation, we remain,
Your Local #436 Negotiation Committee
